Reservoir Characterization StudiesAn engineering study, which identifies the various mechanical rock properties and fluid properties. It determines the extent of their distribution, and seeks to predict the presence of similar properties in nearby undeveloped areas. By knowing the extent, distribution and orientation of these properties the oil and gas producer can then be advised as to how to apply production technology so that the recoverable reserves can best be produced. The completion of a reservoir characterization study generally requires a team approach to the problem. Geologists, Petroleum Engineers, Natural Gas Marketing Specialists, and Accountants all contribute to the understanding of the dynamic between the science, the finance and marketing of the crude oil and natural gas which is produced and sold.
